Free COVID-19 test kits are being distributed in Yarmouth and Chatham this week.

The town of Chatham's health division is distributing free COVID-19 at-home tests to residents from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday or while supplies last.

Yarmouth will continue distributing free test kits until the town's supply is depleted.

Chatham will distribute about 1,700 kits containing two tests per kit, with a limit of one kit per household member.

The free distribution is limited to Chatham residents and non-residents who pay town taxes. People must present proof of residency in the form of a driver's license showing a Chatham address, a real estate tax bill or a long-term lease (of more than six months) at a Chatham address.

The kits will be distributed during a drive-through at the Town Annex, 261 George Ryder Road.

The town of Yarmouth is also making free at-home test kits available to qualified residents at Yarmouth Town Hall and the Yarmouth Senior Center while supplies last.

The Yarmouth free test kit distribution — the second of its kind  — started last week, but supplies have not run out yet.

The test kits are available to residents from low- to moderate-income households, people age 62 and over, people with disabilities and those who have an urgent need for a test kit as a result of being exposed to COVID-19 or are showing COVID symptoms.

"The whole purpose of the program is to slow down COVID to protect our public health," said Mary Waygan, affordable housing coordinator for the town of Yarmouth.

The free rapid antigen test kits are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily through Thursday at Yarmouth Town Hall and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Thursday at the Yarmouth Senior Center.

Yarmouth residents with COVID symptoms, including fever or chills, a runny nose, vomiting or diarrhea are asked not to come into town hall or the senior center but to arrange pickup of the test kit by contacting Waygan at mwaygan@yarmouth.ma.us; 508-398-2231 (ext. 1275) or 774-212-1668.

People should also contact Waygan if they need to pick up a test kit after 4 p.m. or have further questions about who is eligible for the kits.
